HEAL THE WORLD
By: Nwabuisi JohnPaul
One very event I looked forward to was the shooting of
knockouts that garnished the crossover night. Young lads gathered in groups of
fives, threes, and twos littering up their knockouts and point out to places
where they would throw them to. I laughed out my tongue as I saw people run
helter-skelter when knockouts were being blown. Indeed, the crossover night met
many of us in church; celebrating, singing and jubilating to God. We all said
‘Amen’ to the prophecies of the priest or pastor as they declared a year of
God’s blessings and favors upon us. We bade 2019 good bye. It was a good bye to
all our pains, sorrows, and hardships of that year. 2020 was here and with so
much joy and enthusiasm we moved into the New Year.
As the New Year set in, human activities began as usual.
Holiday period was over. Work, school and business had to resume their normal
course. For me, I wish I could begin the holiday afresh, but this was
impossible. I was really enjoying the holiday even though I had developed a bad
toothache that deprived me of so much chicken. Even though I still found my way
around and ate the much I could.
I was so optimistic about 2020 with the hope that things
would be better for me. But upon reflection, I realized that it’s just three
months into 2020 and things have gone this bad. In my thinking, it seems the
death toll of these three months is more than the total death toll of 2019. I
may not know what we all go through but some of us would agree that 2020 has
been very hard. This is not what we expected. This was not the prayer request
we made at the crossover night.
However, the most burgeoning issue perturbing the world
is the problem of ‘Corona Virus.’ W. H. O. has declared the disease a pandemic
as it has resulted to the deaths of many across the globe. We are indeed
worried and do not know what the future holds for us all. It could be you, it
could be me.
We all are in hard times especially in Nigeria. Our
problems are already numerous and we have this adding to the issue. Let us work
and pray together that God will help us heal our world. Let us work by adhering
to the directives to stay indoors and be safe. Let us keep praying to God and
ask him to heal our world of this pandemic. Be hopeful, things will get better.
